Award plaques help to celebrate a moment in time when a person achieves an excellent goal. However, when you are the one ordering these celebratory mementos, it can be difficult to know exactly what to write on the award. Below, learn more information about choosing the wording on an award plaque.

Be Brief & Thoughtful

The three most important aspects you need to list on a plaque are the recipient’s name, their accomplishment, and the organization giving the award. The recipient’s name should be the largest text on the plaque, followed by a description of what they are receiving the award for. Examples could include John Alexander for “Excellence in Sales.” You could include the company logo at the bottom of the plaque as well.

While many people who order plaques want to include plenty of information about the exact nature of the achievement, it is important to remember that you only have so much space, and crowding too much information on the plaque could make it difficult to read and unsightly to look at.

Try to be brief when you write the text for an award plaque. If there is space for a small block of text, include the largest achievements, and express them in as brief of a way as possible. For instance, underneath the name and reason for the achievement, you could state, “John exemplified his role as a senior sales associate by boosting overall sales 15% over the previous year. We appreciate your incredible efforts, John.”

Proofread Everything

Anytime you will be having text engraved on plaques, it is crucial to check and double-check everything from the exact spelling of the recipient’s name to their official job title in your company. To eliminate potential errors in the text block, run the text through a proofreading application to look for punctuation issues, spelling problems, or grammatical errors that could discredit your statements. We always recommend having a proof created before moving forward with engraving to give you the opportunity to check for any mistakes and otherwise make changes before moving forward to the final product.
