Perhaps you’re always playing an addictive new game on your Apple® device or finding yourself scrolling through social media posts only to realize half an hour has gone by. If you feel like you’re spending too much time on your iPhone® in non-productive ways, there are many options for putting those lost minutes back in your day. Use these strategies to increase your productivity and feel better about your time management skills.

How to Avoid iPhone Distractions

1. Designate Phone-Free Time

Minimize distractions by placing your phone where it isn’t immediately accessible. If you work from home and your Apple device is on your desk, for example, it becomes easy to pick it up and scroll through assorted apps. Having to get up to look at your phone reduces your use because you’re focused on what you’re currently doing.

2. Limit Notifications

Disable applications you don’t need to get notifications for. Make it so you only receive notifications for what’s important, such as text messages from your inner circle and work emails. The fewer notification “dings” your iPhone makes throughout the day, the less distracted you’ll be.

3. Organize Your Apps

Apple devicePlace all your apps in one folder so you don’t see them every time you open your phone. Having to take extra time to access an app makes it less tempting.

Delete entertainment apps while you’re organizing, such as game apps or those concerning celebrity news. Entertainment apps are among the most distracting, so deleting them helps you concentrate on the present moment.

4. Retrain Your Brain

Look at your phone less by training yourself to do something else when you want to open it for unimportant reasons. Do some squats or lunges instead, or take a walk around the block. Read a few pages from a book, turn your attention to a craft project, or do a little cleaning. If you’re at work, get up and stretch instead of browsing apps to refresh your body as well as your mind.
