Moving is a big undertaking even in the best of circumstances. Winter weather can complicate your move, where you may need to deal with snow, ice, or wet weather. That’s why it makes sense to call in professional home movers to ensure your valuable possessions make it to your new home in good condition. Hercules Moving & Storage have been Cincinnati, Ohio’s go-to movers for over 30 years. They can ensure your valuable possessions reach your new home safely, no matter the weather.

There are some benefits to moving in the winter. It’s usually cheaper and easier to make reservations. Many people wouldn’t choose to move in frigid temps, but sometimes you have no choice.

Here are six tips to moving in winter:

  • Be Flexible: Weather can be unpredictable in winter. Have a backup plan in case the weather takes a bad turn. If it starts snowing, you may need to postpone your move.
  • Set Up Your Utilities: Remember to set up utilities at your new place before you move in. You’ll need lights, and the heat and water should be on even before you arrive!
  • Clear A Path: Make sure all pathways are clear at both your old home and the new one if possible. Shovel snow and debris to the side. Also, be sure to remove any ice.
  • Protect Your Flooring: Snow, sand, and water can wreak havoc with your floors. Put down large pieces of cardboard or plastic to protect your carpets and hardwood, or have your movers do it. Secure them so they’re not a tripping hazard.
  • Take Care Of Plants: If not protected from the elements, indoor plants may not survive the journey. Insulate them from the cold with a soft material like bubble wrap.
  • Make Sure Your Personal Vehicle Is Ready To Go: Don’t forget that you need to get to your new destination safely. Pack your car with an emergency kit, warm blankets, tire chains, water, and extra food.
