If you want bold brows, getting eyebrow tattoos is a smart choice. You get darker, better-defined arches without needing makeup. After your appointment, you should take certain steps to preserve your brows. Discover the must-know do’s and don’ts below.

Do:

Be patient.

Your eyebrow tattoo won't look perfect immediately. The initial flaking and scabbing will stop and the brows will look less “drawn on” as they lighten over the first two weeks.

Use your healing balm.

Your technician will supply you with an ointment after your appointment. Use it as instructed. In most cases, this means applying it two to three times per day with a clean cotton bud.

Stay out of the sun.

eyebrow tattooUV rays will cause freshly tattooed brows to fade more quickly. The sun or a tanning bed can also cause irritation and redness. Wear a large, broad-brimmed hat to protect your face when outdoors.

Don’t:

Wash your face.

Getting your brows wet in the first 48 hours will interfere with healing. Use wipes to clean the rest of your face as needed. You can dab away any crusty buildup on your brows with a cotton pad.

Apply makeup.

Don't use any makeup on your brows for the first week. If your technician supplied you with a healing balm, that’s all you should be applying. Makeup increases the risk of infection.

Scratch.

Some itching is normal as your brows are healing. Resist the urge to scratch, which can introduce bacteria to your brows and cause infection. If itching is accompanied by redness and inflammation, you may have an infection.
