Dogs sleep a lot every day. As your pup snoozes in various positions throughout your house, you might wonder what they mean when it comes to pet care. Here’s what you should know.

What Do Your Dog’s Sleeping Positions Mean?

1. Paws in the Air

If you find your dog sleeping on their back with their paws up, they might be trying to cool off. The fur on a dog’s belly is thinner than it is in other places, and their paws have sweat glands. Make sure you’re practicing appropriate pet care by opening a window or turning on the AC.

This position makes them vulnerable because it exposes sensitive areas and makes it more difficult for them to get to their feet. When they sleep this way, it means they feel safe and comfortable.

2. Curled Up

In cooler weather, you’ll often find your dog curled up, nose to tail. Keeping their body condensed this way allows them to stay warm.

3. Superman

If your pooch is sprawled out on their belly, they might be feeling playful and sleepy at the same time. The posture allows them to jump up and play if the mood strikes them or the right playmate arrives.

The position is common in puppies who love naps but have a lot of energy and don’t sleep for long. Usually, the superman posture isn’t comfortable for deep sleep, so they’ll change positions when that time arrives.
