From a manicured lawn to well-maintained trees, lush greens look stunning in the yard if they’re in the right places. But when vegetation shows up uninvited to other spaces such as cracks on the pavement, it makes the property look neglected and run down. Luckily, there are weed control tactics you can use between landscaping appointments to keep the pavement looking clean.

3 Tips for Pavement Weed Control

1. Boiling Water

Instead of throwing away boiling water from steaming or cooking vegetables or pasta, pour it on weeds growing in cracks on the pavement. The water’s heat shocks the weeds’ leaves and root tissues and stunts their growth. You can also add a bit of salt to the hot water, as sodium is toxic to some types of weeds.

2. Salt & Vinegar Solution

Pour this mixture on the weeds. The vinegar’s acetic acid is deadly to the weeds, while the dishwashing soap makes the mixture stick to the leaves and roots.

3. Seal the Cracks

Exclusion is an excellent way to get rid of weeds once and for all. If the pavement doesn’t have cracks on it, seeds won’t be able to penetrate, and weeds won’t thrive. Inspect your pavement annually and seal any developing cracks with masonry caulk or mortar.
