According to a national survey from June, around two-thirds of parents were—and may still be—concerned about sending their children to brick-and-mortar schools. If you’re nervous about your little one, it’s important to learn about the relevant health issues and how to protect your family’s rights. Here’s what you need to know to prevent a personal injury law case.

School Reopening Guidelines in New York State

Schools throughout New York State have been asked to prepare for three different options: remote learning, in-person learning, and a hybrid model.

If you’re planning on sending your child to school, make sure your district is following state guidelines. The administration should be requiring students to wear masks at all times unless they’re socially distanced or eating. However, if your little one won’t be able to handle wearing a face-covering due to health issues, they may be exempt.

Finally, screenings will be crucial to keep everyone safe. Whenever someone enters the school building, they’ll need to have their temperature taken. If it’s over 100 degrees, they won’t be allowed to enter. It’s also recommended that you take your child’s temperature before school as an extra precaution.

Other Considerations to Keep in Mind

Even with schools taking steps to keep everyone safe, there are still issues to consider. For example, your child may have fallen behind due to distanced learning. Speak to the school about adjusting the classes and curricula, and expect to spend at least some time helping your little one catch up.

If your child has a medical condition that makes COVID-19 a high risk, consider keeping them at home until it’s safe. The school must be willing to work with you to address your concerns and meet your little one’s needs.
