Adding a new tree to your yard is a lovely way to beautify your space, increase shade, and spruce up the landscaping. However, planting a tree requires some preparation. Here are three tree care tips to ensure the new addition has a long and healthy life.

How to Get Your Yard Ready for a New Tree

1. Prepare the Area

Make sure the location for the new tree is ready before you purchase the plant. You can either work with a landscaping contractor to clear the area of weeds, debris, or other plants or do so yourself.

2. Pay Attention to Seasons

The season in which you plant your tree matters. For proper tree care,  avoid summertime, as hot months mean you have to use much more water to keep the soil wet enough. Plant evergreen trees in the spring and deciduous trees in the fall when the weather is milder.

3. Think About Root Expansion

Eventual root development will expand up to three times the original root ball size. Take this into account when deciding where to plant the tree. Measure outward from the tree’s location to ensure eventual root growth won’t interfere with underground sewer or power lines. Also, keep in mind any future construction you may want to do.
