While we deal with the coronavirus, it can be easy to feel confined to the house. A picnic is a perfect way to spend time outside, bonding with your family. Whether you are planning a romantic outing with your spouse or something for the kids to enjoy, follow the tips below for a great day at the park.

A Guide to Planning a Successful Picnic

1. Scope Out the Park

parkKnow where you plan to go before the day of the picnic. You can drive through your neighborhood or look up local parks online to see what type of facilities are available. Look for one that has picnic tables or shelters, which have shade coverings. You may also want a park with bathroom facilities nearby, especially if you’re bringing kids.

2. Pack Easy-to-Eat Foods

To avoid a mess, pack your food in containers that people can eat directly out of rather than transferring their meals to other plates. Finger foods are also ideal, such as carrot sticks and sandwiches. Avoid any foods that will spoil quickly in the sun, such as mayo-based potato salad. Opt instead for a fruit salad or some chips.

In addition to bringing napkins or wet wipes to clean up messes, also make sure you have something to secure them with so they don’t get blown away by wind.

3. Bring an Activity

If you come prepared, you can turn a picnic into a full day’s outing. Plan something to do while you are there. There may be local playgrounds or walking trails; check that they are open during the pandemic if you plan to do one of these. You can also bring your own fun. Kick a soccer ball around or read out loud in the sunlight.
