As an owner or manager of a business, clean storefront glass ensures people can see your wares and gives customers a positive first impression. Displaying properly maintained windows will keep up your business’s appearance and entice potential customers to walk through the door. Here are five tips for making your glass sparkle.

5 Tips for Cleaning Storefront Glass

1. Gather Your Equipment

It’s crucial to have supplies on hand so you can regularly wash the windows when needed. Purchase a 10- to 12-inch squeegee with a rubber blade. Store the device in a 5-gallon bucket with a sponge, a microfiber rag, and some dishwashing soap.

2. Remove Stains

Fill the bucket with warm water and add a few squirts of dishwasher soap. Dip the sponge into the mix and run it in circular motions on the storefront glass, paying special attention to areas with debris build-up. The sponge is malleable, so it’s perfect for getting into corners and trim to address spider webs and dirt.

3. Rinse

Angle the blade, so one side overlaps the last lap while the other is angled slightly behind the top to catch any drips. Perform this step immediately after washing, or the water may evaporate and leave behind soapy streaks.

4. Wipe

Use a dry microfiber rag to remove water around the trim and edges. Once the glass dries, run the cloth over any soapy markings to keep it streak-free. Always use a clean, dry rag to prevent dirtying the glass and having to redo this process.

5. Maintain Your Equipment

A typical rubber squeegee should last for many window scrubbing sessions. Replace the blades if you notice they are leaving streaks down the glass. You can also reverse the blade to use the unused side.

Keep the squeegee out of direct sunlight as UV rays can dry out rubber and damage the blade. Always wait until your cleaning supplies dry before placing them in storage to avoid mold build-up.
