As the seasons change, people sometimes need to switch up their daily habits. Finding time to care for the body and mind is particularly important in the active summer months. While visiting a spa is one way to relax, there are other strategies you can implement between appointments to boost your well-being.

How to Stay Healthy During the Summer

1. Wear Sunscreen

As people spend more time outdoors this season, wearing sunscreen every day becomes even more important. Experts recommend choosing a product that has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher to prevent skin damage from ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Apply the product 15 minutes before going outside to let it take effect. Reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating.

2. Stay Hydrated

SpaHigher temperatures cause people to sweat more, increasing the risk of dehydration. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to increase your energy levels and get healthy, plump skin.

In addition to carrying a water bottle, sneak fluids into your body by eating foods with high water content, including watermelon, cantaloupe, and cucumber.

3. Set a Schedule

Creating and sticking to a regular routine has numerous health benefits, including stress reduction, better sleep, and energy boosts.

To award these benefits, the routine should include balanced meals every three hours, exercise, and eight hours of sleep every night. When you’re well-rested and full from a healthy meal, you have more fun during summer activities.

4. Be Social

Studies have shown that people who are more social experience less stress, live longer, and recover from injuries quicker. While it may seem difficult to meet people during the pandemic, there are still plenty of ways to interact with friends and family.

Schedule virtual game nights, go for hikes while maintaining safe social distancing, and use video conferencing to connect with loved ones.

5. Relax

Be sure to find some time to slow down and practice relaxation techniques. Unwinding lowers blood pressure, helps digestion, and improves mood.

Schedule time for self-care throughout the week, such as getting a massage at a spa, reading by the pool, and meditating at home.
