Products We Love

This is the first article in a new series. The products we will discuss are simply products or services that we feel strongly about. This is not an article to say that all other similar products are substandard, it is just that we really like the ones we are showing. These will not all be dental products and if you have a product you love let us know. Email the practice using “Products We Love” in your subject line.

Here is ours for this instalment: Clinpro™ 5000 1.1% Sodium Fluoride Anti-Cavity Toothpaste.  I was first introduced to Clinpro™ from Dr. David Williams in Pensacola. Visit his website here https://www.pensacolaperio.com/.

I had experienced gum recession and thought I had it in control once Dr. Leverett put me in a nightguard to combat my issues with TMJ. I was amazed how much my night guard made a difference with my recession. However, over time my grinding got worse and my recession followed suit. Doc sent me to see one of his go-to perio experts, Dr. Williams. He put me at ease with my recession and recommended the Clinpro™.

This product has helped me immensely with sensitivity. I still have recession and work hard to keep up proper oral hygiene, but this product is a part of my regime. Dr. Leverett has also added adult fluoride treatments to my cleaning appointments. Although some articles state to only use Clinpro™ for a set duration, others say that a tube will last long enough in between dental cleanings so that you know when it is time for your cleaning. A tube lasts me longer than the standard 6 months interval between cleanings. I also use a “regular” tooth paste as Clinpro™ is typically prescribed for a once a day cleaning. You do not rinse after using Clinpro™, you simply expectorate (a not so simple word for spit it out).

You need a prescription for Clinpro™. See your dental practitioner to discuss whether or not this product is for you. It helps prevent cavities and is easy to use since it is a one and done treatment and not a follow up product for after your regular toothbrushing. Clinpro™ is not for everyone, again, consult your dentist. Children under 6 are one example of who should not use Clinpro™ unless a doctor prescribes otherwise.

The way it works is fascinating for those interested in chemistry. According to Dental Products Report online (https://www.dentalproductsreport.com/view/clinician-reviews-3m-espes-Clinpro™-5000-anti-cavity-toothpaste). The calcium in Clinpro™ is protected by a barrier until it comes into contact with saliva. At that point the calcium is released and allows for remineralization of tooth enamel. The fluoride helps kill bacteria and changes the pH balance in the mouth.

Again, talk to your dentist or visit us at elbertadental.net. Clinpro™ is not for everyone but it is one product we love.

Happy brushing! Mimi G. Leverett
