If you’re planning a funeral for a loved one, consider showing a tribute video during the service or reception. This can honor the unique life of your loved one and incorporate their many friends and family members in the memorial. Here’s how you can make a beautiful collaboration that truly expresses the love and energy they brought to the world.

What Is a Tribute Video?

A tribute video is a collection of clips and photos that memorializes your loved one. It usually involves videos of treasured memories, pictures of important events, and their favorite songs.

In many ways, the tribute is a visual eulogy that shows who your loved one was and why they’ll be missed. What you include depends on their unique life and personality. Some variations include only photos, while others might use short clips of various guests talking about how the deceased changed their lives.

How to Make One

FuneralThink about when you’re going to show the memorial video. If you’re showing it during the funeral, it should be set to music, and you may choose to include the audio from any video clips you show. If it will be shown at a luncheon, dinner, or reception, keep the film silent to allow guests to talk while it plays in the background.

The setting should also determine the video’s length. If you’re playing it at the funeral, it should be no more than six to eight minutes long. It can be twice as long if it’s being shown after the service.

Each picture should remain on the screen for four or five seconds to allow guests to see it, so you’ll need about 80 to 100 photos for a short tribute video. As you choose pictures, try to tell a story about your loved one. Show their most important relationships, their favorite activities, and their personality.

Don’t forget pictures from their childhood and important life events like weddings and graduations. If you’d like a large collection to choose from, ask other family members and friends to send you any photos or videos they have.
