Like other arts, dancing offers a healthy channel for one’s emotions. It is also a useful form of exercise that can help those involved improve their strength and balance. While these are compelling reasons to enroll your child in dance classes, try the following to spark their interest first.

How to Help Your Children See the Fun in Dancing

1. Use Props

Young children might sway or bounce in a dance-like way. Give them props, like a colorful ribbon or a rattle, that further encourages them to move. Additionally, they might enjoy dancing with their teddy bear as a partner. If they have toys that make music, play them and encourage them to follow the beat.

2. Follow the Leader

As well as giving little ones some practice dancing, learning to pay attention to the non-verbal cues of others can help them develop social skills and focus that will help them when they attend dance classes, as well as in other areas of their life.

3. Create Dance Themes

If your young one isn’t sure how they want to move when given a beat, give them some suggestions based on familiar sights and sounds. For example, encourage your children to think of some animals they love and base their dance moves on how those animals move. They could pretend their arm is an elephant trunk or prowl around like a cat. Alternatively, have them mimic swimming or the way superheroes fly.

If your child loves their at-home dance parties, consider enrolling them at Robin Dawn Academy of Performing Arts in Cape Coral, FL. The studio has welcomed children for over 45 years, offering dance classes in a wide range of musical genres along with specialty classes such as Broadway musicals.
