When you’re on vacation with family, it’s a different experience than traveling alone or with a friend. You might not all fit in a taxi, or the kids might want to split up from the adults. As you plan your itinerary, follow these tips to ensure the trip is a success for everyone.

How to Vacation With Family

1. Plan for Everyone

Choose a destination that everyone can enjoy, such as a resort or a city with many attractions. Then, plan activities for everyone in the group.

Athletic adults may want to go hiking, while kids might be more interested in zoos and child-oriented museums. Teenagers might enjoy spending time by the pool rather than attending events or sightseeing.

Don’t be afraid to split the group if there are activities that only appeal to parts of the family. However, remember to schedule some shared events you can all enjoy together.

2. Include Breaks

TaxiYoung kids can get tired quickly, and elderly family members or people with mobility issues may need a rest after moving around for a few hours. Parents can also benefit from breaks since it’s harder to keep the kids happy and follow an itinerary when they’re tired.

Plan a stop at the hotel or a quieter activity for the middle of the day. If you’re on a longer trip, you should plan one or two rest days without major activities.

3. Be Flexible

Some situations are out of anyone’s control and can’t be planned around. Bus and taxi schedules might be delayed, or a certain attraction might be closed for maintenance.

Leave room in the schedule for the unexpected and be willing to change plans if the rest of the family prefers it. Make a list of backup ideas while you research the destination.
