Bed bugs are never welcome visitors. If you need help treating bed bugs, Atlantic Pest Control in Atlantic, IA, can help.

Here are three things to do in preparation for a visit from a bed bug exterminator:

  1. Get Rid Of The Clutter: If you have been saving newspapers, magazines, and other items that you’ve been meaning to throw away, now’s the time to do it. Put garbage directly into trash bags and remove them to an outside garbage pail. Get rid of cardboard boxes—they create hiding spaces for bed bugs—and replace them with plastic after the bed bug exterminator has visited.
  2. Debug Your Bed: Move your bed away from the wall and cover your mattress and box spring with bed bug-proof covers (you can buy them in a home store) that zip around to trap the bugs and prevent them from spreading. Put bed bug interceptors (also available at a home store) under each bed leg and inspect daily.
  3. Treat & Clean Clothing & Bedding: Heat clothing and bedding in a hot dryer set on high for at least a half hour to kill the bed bugs, then store the items in sealed bags to keep them bug-free. Do the same for curtains and towels. It’s important to remember that anything removed from the infested room(s) should be discarded or properly treated so that bed bugs don’t spread throughout the rest of your residence.
