Have you noticed wrinkles in the skin at the corners of your eyes? Those are called crow’s feet and are common as we age. Fortunately, by learning about what causes them, you can use proper health and skin care techniques to help deal with them. Here’s what you need to know.

What Are the Main Causes of Crow’s Feet?

As we grow older, skin loses collagen and elasticity causing wrinkles around the eyes. Damage from sun’s UV rays and hormonal changes also contribute to crow’s feet, as do significant weight fluctuations: skins stretches with weight gain and wrinkles often appear as you lose pounds.

skin careDaily facial movement also impacts development of wrinkles as each time we smile, blink, squint or frown, lines form. As the process is slow, the effects won’t usually be noticeable for those who are in their teens or 20s. Crow’s feet are more obvious starting in the mid-30s, and accelerate in the 40s and 50s.

How Can You Help Prevent & Treat Crow’s Feet?

Protect the skin around your eyes from the sun by wearing UV blocking sunglasses and sunscreen when you go outside. In addition to preventing damage from UV rays, you’ll be less likely to squint which can cause more lines.

Diet also plays a part. Eat foods that are rich in antioxidants as they reduce inflammation, giving the skin a chance to repair damage. Example are kale, beans, blueberries, onions and spinach. In addition, drink at least 6 tall glasses of water every day to keep your skin hydrated.

Exfoliate your skin regularly. This removes dead skin cells, debris and oils, and reduces the visibility of wrinkles. It also adds volume to your skin and brings fresh cells to the surface.

Get plenty of sleep, between 6 and 8 hours per night.  Deep sleep helps to repair damaged skin and helps to maintain its elasticity.

Finally, talk with a specialist. Fortson Skincare has a range of highly-effective dermatology-grade sunscreens, moisturizers and eye creams for all skin types and advanced treatments for fine lines and wrinkles.
