The fan is one of the most important elements of any water cooling tower. It is responsible for pushing air over the surface of the water to reduce its temperature. This component tends to be fairly low maintenance, but some regular checks are necessary to make sure everything runs at an optimal level. Here are some aspects to cover on an inspection.

Blades

As the fan blades rotate, they naturally come into contact with dust and debris. These materials can scratch or damage the blades if not addressed. During checks, clean off any dirt and make sure there are no significant scratches or dings on the blades that might prevent them from rotating correctly.

If there are, the blades may need to be replaced. You might also consider adding a polymeric coating to prevent damage annually. This offers a protective layer between the fan blade and potentially harmful debris in the air.

Alignment

If you notice this problem, call a professional right away so they can locate the debris and replace any parts that have worn down. To prevent it, make sure all bearings are lubricated every few months and check them regularly to see if more is needed, which should be evident if the metal components are rubbing together directly.

General Wear

From there, you should perform a full visual inspection of the fan and its surrounding parts, like the motor, plates, and couplings to look for rust and worn-down components. Any visible wear marks could be a sign of friction, which should be addressed by a professional since they may need to be replaced with new parts.

Rust may require that a certain part be replaced; handle this as quickly as possible so it doesn’t spread to multiple components. Parts that are exposed to water or moisture in the air are most likely to experience corrosion.
