When a car is totaled in an accident or a significant amount of parts are stolen and the insurance company responsible for the vehicle has to pay for it in full, the vehicle may receive a salvage title. This usually occurs when more than 60% of the vehicle’s value has been lost.

4. Import Title

Foreign cars that are manufactured outside the United States are given this title when imported into the country. This is mandatory for them to pass customs. In order to receive an import title, the vehicle must have been designed for use in the U.S., so it meets the nation’s dimensional, environmental, and safety-related standards.
