With the diversity of craft beers now available, it’s never been a better time to be a brew-drinker. As you explore new beverages, there are steps you can take to enhance the taste. Find out how to make your beer even better below.

How to Enjoy Great-Tasting Beer

1. Get the Temperature Right

Contrary to popular belief, you shouldn’t be sipping a “cold one” at freezing temperatures. There’s no need for ice or a frosted glass. Frost actually makes the beer foam, causing it to lose its carbonation and taste-enhancing aroma. Drink your brew at room temperature to get the full flavor.

2. Choose a Fitting Glass

A traditional pint glass is actually not the best choice for your beer. This design requires you to cup the drink with your hand, warming it up in the process. Instead, opt for a glass with a stem. If you don't have one, a wine glass or even a mug will do.

3. Take the Time to Taste It

4. Beware of the Bottom Sludge

Bottled wheat beers are particularly susceptible to this issue. They are made with yeast, which can create a sludge. It's not harmful, but if you don't want to consume it, make sure to leave a sip—with the sludge—in the bottom of the bottle when you pour.

5. Store Beer Correctly

When beer is left out in the sun, it gets “skunky” and will give off a foul odor. Store it in a cool, dry place, away from ultraviolet rays. Also, beware that beer isn't meant to keep forever. It's at its best quality right after it leaves the brewery.
