Rideshare contractors tend to use their cars much more than the average driver. In a single year, a rideshare driver can rack up 50,000 miles behind the wheel. In light of this excess driving, it’s important to conduct regular vehicle inspections and stick to a maintenance schedule that will keep you and your passengers safe.

Why Maintenance Is Essential for Rideshare Drivers

You must keep your vehicle in good shape for passenger safety. Even if you’re driving on paved roads in ideal conditions, car components wear down with use, so frequent vehicle checks are necessary.

Have your car inspected by a professional if you notice any abnormalities, such as odd sounds, poor handling, warning lights, leaking fluids, or malfunctioning systems. Catching issues early on can save you time and money as well as prevent liability issues.

Recommended Maintenance Schedule

Weekly Items

Each week, conduct a vehicle inspection to check the condition of your tires and lights. Make sure that mechanical parts, such as your windshield wipers and blinkers, are in working order and that your tires are properly inflated with no visible signs of damage.

Every 3,000 Miles

Every 6,000 Miles

At the 6,000-mile mark, inspect the electrical components like the battery and battery terminals and spark plugs. Get your tires rotated, so they wear down evenly over time. Check your engine coolant and brake fluid to ensure you have plenty of both.

Every 12,000 Miles

At this point, inspect your braking system. Reach out for professional help if you aren’t sure what to look for. Some signs of exhausted brakes include worn brake pads, grinding noises, a spongy feeling when stopping, and burning smells. A mechanic can help you replace the brake pads, rotors, and other components if necessary.

Additionally, have a professional check your timing belt and your AC system to verify that everything is working well.
