Staging helps sellers make their properties more appealing to prospective buyers. Pictures are particularly important when you sell a house through an online auction, since buyers can’t always tour the property before placing bids. Use the guide below to showcase your home’s potential through attractive photos.

How to Stage a House for Pictures

1. Evaluate the Layout

First, snap a few quick photos to determine whether the layout looks appealing on camera. While the current setup may be ideal for watching TV, for example, it may look crowded in pictures.

You may need to move or remove a few pieces of furniture to create more symmetry, improve lighting, and increase visual space. Removing rugs, for example, shows off your flooring to create the illusion of more square footage.

2. Steam All Fabrics

Before the photo session, wash and iron all bedsheets, blankets, and pillowcases. Use a fabric steamer to smooth out any wrinkles in the curtains.

3. Use Natural Light

Light livens up a space and makes it feel more welcoming. Natural lighting is the most appealing to buyers, but sunlight can cast shadows that make a room appear dark.

To avoid dramatic shadows, hold the photoshoot when it’s cloudy out. The sun in the morning and early afternoon is also angled, minimizing shadows.
