Photos from your wedding day are fantastic ways to remember the special experience. In most of these pictures, you’ll be displaying your smile. For this reason, many brides and grooms opt to have cosmetic dentistry procedures before their wedding dates. Below are three common procedures that are done before the wedding day.

A Guide to Cosmetic Dentistry for Your Wedding

1. Veneers

Veneers are tooth-colored shells that go over your existing teeth to improve their appearance. They’re often used to cover discolored, worn down, or misaligned teeth. Getting veneers takes three visits to the dentist.

The first involves a consultation to see if you’re a prime candidate for this type of cosmetic dentistry. If veneers are the right option for you, you’ll go back to the dentist to prepare your teeth for veneers. At this visit, the dentist will take molds of your teeth to create your veneers in a lab. This process takes about two to three weeks. Finally, you’ll have your veneers installed. Meet with your dentist at least two to three months before your wedding.

2. Teeth Whitening

cosmetic dentistryOne of the best options to get significantly brighter teeth is an Opalescence™ teeth whitening treatment. This option can whiten your teeth by six to 10 shades before your wedding, all with just an hour of treatment.

First, the technician will isolate your lips and gums. Then whitening gel will be applied, followed by a fluoride treatment after the gel is on your teeth for about an hour. Even though the procedure doesn’t last a long time, you should get whitening done in advance, up to 60 days before. Make sure to schedule your whitening at least a week before your wedding, because teeth can be sensitive to these treatments, and can start out spotty before the tone evens out.

3. Crowns

Crowns can return your teeth to their normal shape and size after they’re cracked, excessively decayed, or experience some other type of damage. Installing your crown will take at least two visits to your dentist.

At first, they’ll determine whether you’re a strong candidate, then prepare your tooth for the crown. Then, they’ll make an impression of your tooth so the crown can be made in a lab before installing a temporary crown. It usually takes about two to three weeks to make your crown. At the second visit, the new crown will be installed. Since crowns can take a while to make, don’t delay in getting them done, and visit your dentist at least 90 days before your wedding in case there are any complications.
