With this unrelenting cold weather across a good deal of the country and especially in the Northeast, frozen pipes are becoming a bigger and bigger issue. Frozen pipes lead to burst pipes and more work in the end. It's important to know how to service these pipes, both helping prevent and fix the issue before it becomes worse.

Some easy tips to prevent frozen pipes:

  • Draining water from swimming pools and water sprinkler supplies. Avoid putting antifreeze in these lines.
  • Removing, draining, and storing hoses.
  • Insulating pipes that are in unheated areas of the house.
  • Installing pipe sleeves or heat cables.

Thawing frozen pipes can be done by applying heat to a section of the pipe with a heating pad wrapped around it. It's important to keep supplying heat until full water pressure is restored. In some cases, it might be smart to have pipes relocated to prevent future frozen pipes.

Keep all of these things in mind, especially if you are looking to get into the plumbing industry yourself. They are great tips to carry over to your clients.
