An auto collision can cause a long list of vehicle issues. Across the varying degrees of damage from minor to severe, misaligned wheels are one of the most common consequences. Unfortunately, it's easy to overlook the matter unless you know the signs, which can lead to more significant problems down the road. Here are the top three issues to watch out for.

3 Signs a Car is Out of Alignment

1. Vehicle Pulling

All roadways are built with a slight gradient to help direct the flow of water to the shoulders. This quality causes a slight pull of the vehicle's wheels to one side or another. Yet, it shouldn't be a struggle to maintain a straight line. Such a problem poses a serious danger as it could pull you too far over or cause you to overcorrect, so make auto repairs a priority.

2. Off-Center Steering

auto collisionAs with the wheel pull, roadway crowning requires a slight movement of the wheel to maintain a straight line. However, the gesture is so minuscule when the wheels are straightened that it's not noticeable. When the alignment is off, you'll likely notice that the steering wheel is far from the center when the tires are straight. Additionally, if you straighten the wheel when parking, the front tires will then rest at an angle.

3. Uneven Tire Wear

When the wheels are misaligned, it distributes the weight unevenly between the tires. As a result, the tread wears unevenly, requiring premature replacement of the impacted ones and increasing the risk of a flat or blowout. This issue takes a while to become visible. For that reason, periodically check your tires weekly for the first few months after being involved in an auto collision.
