Swimming in lakes is a wonderful summer activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family. However, if you find that your swimsuit is damaged every time you go swimming, it takes away some of the enjoyment. Fortunately, simple solutions like using a water softener can fix the problem. The tips below will help to keep your swimsuit in good condition.

How Can You Clean Your Swimsuit After Lake Swimming?

1. Rinse

It’s best to remove lake water from your swimsuit as soon as possible after swimming before dirt and contaminants soak into the fabric. If there are shower facilities near the lake, keep your swimsuit on while you shower. If there are no showers then try to rinse the garment with bottled water. If you don’t have time to wash it when you get home, give it a good rinse and wash it as soon as you can.

2. Hand Wash

It’s much better to hand wash your swimsuit than to use a machine, which takes its toll on the fibers. Soak the garment in a sink with cold water and mild detergent, then rinse it off with cold water. If you do machine wash, only do a cold wash and be sure to use a mesh bag along with a detergent designed for delicates.

3. Dry Carefully

Let it dry naturally instead of using a dryer, but don’t leave it in direct sunlight as this may fade it. Don’t use a hanger as this might stretch the fabric and instead dry it on a flat surface. You could use a flat clothes rack or a towel on a waterproof surface.

4. Use a Water Softener

Using a water softener makes your bathing suit feel like new. It will help to remove any smell, maintain the color, and remove stains. A water softener works by removing minerals such as calcium and magnesium, which cause all kinds of problems when you do laundry. These minerals cause the detergent to bond with ions in the water, which makes clothing stiff and discolored.
