If you’re a business owner, you work hard to make the exterior and interior of your company’s building attractive to prospective customers. However, if your parking lot is faded and full of potholes, you may be making a negative impression before people even walk through the door. Before you invest in parking lot paving, learn about the stages of the project below.

The 3 Steps of Parking Lot Paving

1. Prepare the Site

Jackhammers and other heavy machinery will be used to break apart your lot’s old material. Your team of contractors will then collect the pieces and haul them away from the site. In most cases, old asphalt can be recycled to reduce the environmental impact of disposal.

2. Pave the Surface

Additional aggregate will be hauled in, if needed, and it will be graded and compacted until correct densities and drainage are achieved. Then a layer of asphalt will be added. It’s composed of smaller aggregates, like sand mixed with petroleum, which gives new asphalt its distinctive jet black color.

3. Add Finishing Touches

Your contractor will pay extra attention to the areas where the material joins with existing roadways or walkways to ensure they transition smoothly. Next, the pavement will be compacted with a combination of rollers so that the surface is completely smooth. The striping team will add paint to create stall lines, traffic arrows, crosswalks, and other directional indicators that drivers and pedestrians need.
