COVID-19 has changed the way many people perform common activities. Open houses are an essential part of the home-buying process, and you don’t want the pandemic to interrupt it. There are many ways to safely attend an open house if you want to buy a home. Below are a few tips that you can use now.

What Are Some Open House COVID-19 Safety Tips?

1. Wear a Mask

The CDC advises wearing a cloth facemask to stop the spread of COVID-19. You can pick these up at any pharmacy.

They should fit comfortably over your nose and mouth and will prevent you from spreading the coronavirus if you’re unknowingly carrying it. Note that children aged two and younger and those that have trouble breathing do not need to wear masks.

2. Schedule a Virtual Tour

You can still view every aspect of the home and ask questions to determine if you want to take the next steps in the home-buying process.

3. Social Distance

The CDC also recommends practicing social distancing. Standing at least 6 feet away from other people will help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This means keeping a few feet away from the real estate agent. If you’re bringing small children, it’s wise to hold their hand so they won’t accidentally wander too close.

4. Sanitize & Don’t Touch

Purchase a hand sanitizer that’s at least 60% alcohol. This can be effective for preventing the spread of the coronavirus and also keeping your hands clean when you aren't able to wash them with soap and water.

While you’re at the open house, avoid touching any of the surfaces or décor used to stage the home. This ensures you don’t leave germs behind for someone else.
