The weather can get hot during the summer. If you’re planning a move this season, stay comfortable by making a few plans with your movers. Below are some ways to stay cool during moving day.

Do:

Start early in the morning.

Book an appointment as early in the morning as possible. The temperature increases after 10 a.m., so take advantage of the cooler morning hours. The heat usually dies down after 2 p.m., so plan to unload after that time.

Be careful with heat-sensitive items.

The interiors of your car and the moving truck will get hotter over time, so have the movers wait to load boxes that contain belongings affected by the temperatures, including electronics, instruments, and vinyl records. You can pack these, but leave them in an air-conditioned environment until the moving truck is ready to go.

Don’t:

Let yourself overheat.

Remember to stay hydrated throughout the day. Have a supply of water bottles in your old and new homes so you and the movers can reach for them as needed.

To keep yourself cool, wear breathable clothing made of cotton. Hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses also protect your skin and eyes from ultraviolet (UV) rays while you’re outdoors.

Move during a holiday.

While you may have more time off during a holiday, remember that the majority of people do. Holidays are popular times to move and travel, so roads are more likely to be congested.

Avoid the crowds, traffic, and unneeded stress by steering clear of the Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends. Enjoy those times off and get to work the next weekend.
