When it comes to packing and moving, the kitchen is one of the most challenging rooms, with its breakable and numerous contents. While putting it off may be tempting, the best thing to do is start early to give yourself time to deal with any setbacks without being overstressed. Below are some packing and moving tips to help make the process even easier.

How Can You Easily Pack Up Your Kitchen?

1. Organize

Make lists of what can be kept, thrown out, and given away. Throw away the garbage, then make a pile of items to give away (anything you haven’t used in a while). Make a separate pile of items you need to keep but may not have room for (like extra appliances), and consider putting them in storage until needed. After this, put aside things that you’ll need on a daily basis, so you know not to pack them.

2. Plan

After that, make a plan with steps to pack everything else. A simple way to do this is to divide your kitchen into chunks, such as cabinets, drawers, and the pantry. If there’s something you’re really dreading, start there, so everything afterward is easier. Leave your small appliances for last, and pack them according to the manual’s advice.

3. Package

packing and movingFragile items, like ceramic or glass, should be packed in small boxes to keep the load light and reduce the risk of dropping them. They should also only be put in double-sided cardboard or thick plastic tubs to minimize the chance of damage. Large and medium boxes can be used for light items made of rubber, plastic, or metal, like cookie sheets and mixing bowls. You can use wrapped silverware to fill any gaps within boxes to prevent shifting.

4. Label

Label each box clearly in bold lettering, and make it as specific as possible. For instance, instead of putting “kitchen dishes” on the box, give a brief description of the contents inside, such as plates, bowls, cups, wine glasses, silverware, cookbooks, or cookie sheets. This helps you find them with ease when you get to the new place.
