Unless you have a lot of yard space, you’ll likely need RV storage once road trip season is over. You’ll want to ensure no issues occur while the vehicle is packed away. Taking the proper steps is a must; use the following guide to help you prepare your RV before putting it into storage.

How to Prepare Your RV for Storage

1. Clean Interior & Exterior

You should deep clean your RV to prevent dirt and grime from settling on surfaces and into fabrics. Wash the interior well with an anti-bacterial cleaner, and remove food, crumbs, and other items that may attract pests while in storage.

Next, clean the exterior. Wash all sides of the RV and blast the underside with water to remove debris. You can then apply a layer of wax so that the RV is pristine and will be ready for use once you take it out again.

2. Check the Seals & Ventilation

You should also check the ventilation system. If any moisture gets into the vehicle, this system will dry it out before it can damage the interior or lead to mold growth. Leave the roof vents open to circulate fresh air.

3. Add a Cover

For comprehensive protection, cover the RV. A sturdy cover can protect the vehicle from hail, water damage, and other problems.

This accessory is essential if you aren’t storing the RV under a metal carport. When the season is over, fold it up, tuck it into the garage or a storage unit, and have it ready for next season.

4. Drain It & Fill the Gas Tank

Freezing temperatures can cause water to solidify and damage the pipes. Drain all of the liquid from the RV’s system. You can also add some antifreeze to the P traps and waste tanks to prevent damage.

Lastly, fill the gas tank as much as possible. This will prevent moisture from forming inside and causing the component to rust.
