As a rideshare driver, your vehicle goes through an unusual amount of wear and tear. Proper preventive maintenance will maximize its lifespan, avoid the high costs of reactive repairs, and avoid breakdowns on the road with your passengers. Prioritize your auto maintenance with an adjusted schedule designed for your working vehicle.

Weekly Maintenance

Tires

Inspect your tires once a week. This includes checking your tire pressure and adjusting it, so it stays within the recommended PSI range listed on the sidewall. Check the tires when they are cold—when the car has been parked for a few hours—for the most accurate reading.

Fluids

Top off your windshield wiper fluid or try to keep the reservoir at least half full. Check the oil level and top off this fluid between oil changes as needed.

Every 3,000 to 6,000 Miles

Oil Changes

onalaska oil changeBecause your driving likely includes a lot of stop and go, you’ll go through your oil more quickly. Stick to an oil change schedule every 3,000 miles, unless you use synthetic oil that will last longer. Some oils may last up to 5,000 miles. When you have an oil change done, test your vehicle’s lights (headlights, brights, indicators, and brake lights).

Tires

Check your tire tread wear every 3,000 miles by inserting a penny upside down into the groove between the tread. If the tread doesn’t touch the top of Lincoln’s head, it has worn below 2/32 of an inch, and your tires need to be replaced. Have your tires rotated every 6,000 miles.

Other Auto Maintenance

Check your vehicle owner’s manual for requirements on other maintenance. Your manual will likely tell you to determine your maintenance intervals by mileage or age of the vehicle. Because you drive so often, stick to the recommendations based on mileage.
