The Covid-19 pandemic has forced many kids to stay home for months, missing out on social and educational opportunities. After such a challenging time, A Rising Star Children's Center wants to give children in and around Croton-on-Hudson, NY, a summer to remember. That's why the local learning center is hosting an eight-week long summer camp program. Here's what you need to know.

2020 Summer Camp Program in Croton-on-Hudson

The goal of the summer program is to give local kids three elements that were scarce during the recent lockdown: education, socialization, and fun. Not only do campers get to spend much needed time outdoors (the center offers 3 ½ acres of land with four playgrounds), but the educational components cover a wide range of subjects, from science to art.

  • Week 1 - Build It Week: Dedicated to problem-solving, the kids get a chance to explore woodworking, including decorating a garden box and making birdhouses.

  • Week 2 - Nature Week: Campers get up close and personal with Mother Nature through gardening and outdoor exploration.

  • Week 3 - Art Week: Week three is designed to bring out the campers' creativity. Starting with the Renaissance, participants learn about different eras of art history and use artists of the past as inspiration for their own work.

  • Week 4 - Sports Week: Sports week is sure to get everyone in the competitive spirit. After learning the ins and outs of different sports, including soccer, basketball, football and gaga, campers round out week four by competing in the learning center's own day camp Olympics.

  • Week 5 - Theater Week: Campers explore their dramatic side with improvisation games and musical theater numbers. They even get a chance to produce a show for their parents at the end of the week.

  • Week 6 - Science Week: From physics to chemistry, the campers take on experiments to learn how the role of science is involved in every aspect of life, including making ice cream.

  • Week 7 - Ocean Week: Camp attendees take a dive into ocean life during week seven by exploring sea creatures and the roles they play. They finish off the week with some fun-filled water games.

  • Week 8 - Cooking & Cultures Around the World Week: The final week of the center's summer camp program provides insight into different cultures all over the globe, including Greece, Mexico, and India.

With such a diverse offering, your camper is sure to not only learn new information but also have fun doing it.
