The capital of Nebraska offers classic architecture, modern conveniences, and plenty of room to breathe. Lincoln has green wildlands and hiking trails, but you’ll always be a short taxi ride from boutique shopping experiences in stunning historical buildings. If you’re planning a trip to this lively city, consider adding the following attractions to your itinerary.

What Attractions Should You See in Lincoln?

1. Haymarket District

The Haymarket District features historic brick architecture and a variety of bars, shops, and restaurants. It also hosts art walks and an expansive farmers market, providing visitors with a taste of the local culture. It’s possible to walk the entirety of the district in an afternoon, making it a perfect day outing.

2. Nebraska State Capitol

taxiBuilt in 1932, the 15-story Capitol Building is open to the public year-round, except on major holidays. The building includes the best city views, and the interior is decorated by carvings, mosaics, murals, and other artwork. Many of the building’s original fixtures are still intact, making it an interesting architectural visit for people who appreciate art deco elements.

3. MoPac Trail

Lincoln is home to over a hundred miles of trails for running, walking, and enjoying nature. Some of these paths were converted from old railroad corridors as part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. The MoPac Trail is one of them, following the route formerly used by the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

The MoPac Trail can be accessed from either end in Lincoln and can be tackled on foot or via bicycle. Cross-country skiing is an option during the winter, and there’s a separate trail for horse riding that connects Lincoln to Wabash, NE.
