Purchasing a new home is an exciting process, but the whole deal can rest on its inspection. Home inspectors will provide you with a thorough report about possible issues the house has so you can make an informed decision. While an evaluation of the home's interior is necessary, the outside of the property is just as important.

What Do Home Inspectors Check Outside?

1. Wall-Coverings

Before looking at anything else, the inspector will examine the home's wall-coverings, including the siding, trim, and flashing. After taking note of the materials used, they'll look for signs of misalignment, cracking, peeling, bubbling, and rust. The home inspector will also check to see if the siding and wall framing of the house have six inches of clearance from the ground, as these areas are prone to decay.

2. Entryways

They may also check the weatherstripping or caulking to ensure it'll prevent water leaks into the house. Finally, they'll look for signs of broken glass.

3. Decks & Balconies

Outdoor living spaces that aren't constructed directly onto the ground may not be as structurally sound as they should be. For instance, the deck or balcony might not have an adequate attachment to the house, which can cause the structure to collapse. Other issues include sagging or rotting boards or unsecured guardrails. While you likely won't notice these problems, a home inspector will.
