There are many reasons why people may consider neck lift surgery. It can minimize the appearance of lines, create a smoother silhouette, tighten the skin, and eliminate plump areas. If you’re interested in improving your neck’s appearance, your surgeon will perform a thorough physical before moving to the next step. Here’s what you can expect of the procedure if you decide to pursue treatment.

Initial Consultation

First, you’ll discuss what you hope to achieve through neck lift surgery. Do you want to reduce excess fat or eliminate visible creases? Different types of treatments exist for different concerns.

You’ll also go over your options for anesthesia and receive instructions for post-operation care.

The Procedure

Hilo, HI neck lift surgeryBefore the operation begins, the anesthesiologist will administer a sedative or general anesthesia, which will allow you to remain comfortable throughout the procedure.

Based on your desired result, your doctor will make either a traditional or limited incision on the targeted skin. The former starts in the sideburn area, extends around the ear, and continues to a low point on your scalp. A limited incision is less invasive because smaller cuts are made to the skin around the ears.

If you choose to have liposuction, your doctor will also make a small incision beneath the chin.

Results

Because of the smaller incision, a limited cut to the skin may not produce such pronounced results. However, for people who don’t seek a dramatic change and only have minimal areas to treat, it is an effective choice. Otherwise, a traditional incision is used to distribute fat more proportionately throughout the entire neck.

Aftercare

Sutures are typically used to close the incisions. These often dissolve on their own, or your doctor may need to remove them several days later.

Your doctor will also advise you to care for the surgical site at home. You may need ice packs to reduce swelling, along with antibacterial products to prevent infection. You should feel normal within two weeks, but you will still have to wait to perform strenuous physical activities, like working out.
