If you have a permanent tooth that is missing or needs to be pulled, your dentist may recommend dental implants or dentures to fill the space. Although these options both replace teeth, they have several differences. If you are deciding between the two, use this guide to help you choose.

Dental Implants

Implants are artificial teeth, and they are attached to your jawbone with titanium posts. They act and look like normal teeth, allowing you to eat and drink with ease. Dental implants are also long-lasting, and they can be used for 25 years or more with regular brushing and flossing.

Dentures

Dentures are removable, non-permanent artificial teeth that are custom-fitted for your mouth. Its tailored fit allows you to speak and chew. Each product is custom-made and is created off of an impression of your mouth. Then, artificial teeth are crafted onto the mold to ensure they match the size and shape of the others. If you opt for this solution, you must clean them daily, or they can irritate your gums. Dentures should also be replaced every five to seven years to maintain their tight fit.  The chewing effectiveness of a denture is a fraction of your natural teeth.
