At Heibel Dermatology in Lincoln, NE, beautiful skin is a priority. They treat all disorders of the skin, both large and small, and dry skin is no exception. In the wintertime, aging and sun-damaged skin is even more affected by the cold, dry weather. The dry weather can worsen current skin problems or create new ones. In addition to treating acne scars, psoriasis, rosacea, and more, Heibel Dermatology will help you re-hydrate your skin and restore its glow.

There are also some steps that you can take at home to help matters. This winter, be sure to:

  • Layer On Moisturizer: If ever there was a time to diligently use moisturizer, this is it. Gentle moisturizers will restore your skin's glow and firmness, helping to prevent cracking and dullness. Moisturizer should be applied morning and night so that it continues to work all day, and while your skin is healing overnight.
  • Don't Forget SPF: SPF is still important on gloomy winter days. The sun is still out and can still penetrate your skin. Skin issues like discoloration and scarring can actually become more prominent with repeated, unprotected exposure to the sun. The sun's rays can also dry out your skin. In other words, keep your skin's shield up with SPF.
  • Moisturize Your Body Too: Moisturizing your face is important, but don't forget the rest of your body. If you forget to moisturize, the dry weather could cause excess itching and discomfort. Be sure to use hand cream as well. Your hands have thin skin, and the cold weather can cause them to crack and bleed.

As you bundle up to head outside, don't forget to protect your skin too. The harsh, cold climate will leave you uncomfortable in your own skin. Even milder winter weather can dry you out. If you continue to have skin concerns over the course of the season, call Heibel Dermatology at (402) 488-6969 or visit them online.
