During the Covid Crisis, some slight adjustments have been made in the Bankruptcy Process. This Post will deal with Chapter 7 Cases. Chapter 7 is the most common type of bankruptcy when we think about the term. For debtors who qualify, Chapter 7 results in a discharge of all debts while at the same time allowing the debtor to keep everything they own (in most cases). It gives a person who has had financial problems a fresh start. Normally, after filing, it requires attending a meeting in Hartford or New Haven where the filer is questioned by a bankruptcy Trustee. If everything is in order, which we make sure is the case, the discharge usually enters a few months later and the filer is now ready to start fresh. Under the present crisis, the Court is allowing us to conduct bankruptcy meetings by phone. We are supplied a special code to do this.
