3 Simple Changes to Relieve Back Pain

1. Don’t Smoke

This bad habit narrows your blood vessels, preventing proper blood flow to your lower spine. Without adequate circulation, your body will have difficulty healing any back injuries and aches. Reduced blood flow will also cause the spinal discs to degenerate, deteriorating the vertebrae and causing pain. Additionally, smoke inhalation will cause you to cough, and you’ll exasperate the symptoms.

2. Maintain Good Posture

lower back painDoes your job require you to lift heavy objects or sit at a computer all day? These repetitive tasks may be putting extra stress on your back, neck, and shoulders. To combat the strain, maintain good posture and keep your body naturally aligned.

When moving heavy objects, lift with your legs to lessen the strain on your back. Tighten your core, and don’t twist mid-lift. Adjust the chair if you’re sitting at a desk, keeping your feet flat on the floor and parallel to your thighs.

3. Manage Your Weight

Extra weight puts additional stress on your body, causing lower back pain. Do your best to eat healthily and exercise to keep the pounds off. Prepare yourself nutritious lunches and go on walks after dinner. To give your body additional support, consume foods rich in calcium and vitamin D to strengthen your bones. These nutritious foods include milk, leafy vegetables, and nuts.
