Next, make sure the setting is private and appointments are done on an individual basis to focus on the your personal needs and goals.  You also want to build positive support around you in the form of family, friends, and/or coworkers.  It may take some training of these support members to be able to receive the kind of support you need.

  • A person who you feel comfortable around in good and difficult times.
  • A person who can cheer you on and help motivate you to continue on.
  • Someone who is available and works with your schedule in times of need.
  • Someone who will be honest with you as you share your struggles.

Avoid choosing those who make unreasonable demands of you.  Or someone who has a competitive or jealous nature.  Avoid those who make you feel like you are constantly being watched.

Also remember it is okay to keep your weight loss progress private and only choose to involve those who you believe will help you continue to do well as you adjust your lifestyle.
