NOTARY UPDATE- MAY 16, 2020

During these uncertain times, you, a family member, or friend, may want a will, living will, power of attorney or health care proxy. The problem becomes how to have these documents notarized. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic (the Coronavirus,) Governor Cuomo signed and then extended an Executive Order allowing notary publics to officiate documents remotely. This process may be done using audio- video technology.

WHAT IS REQUIRED?

To have a document remotely notarized, the person seeking the Notary’s services must present a valid photo ID during the video conference, the person must affirmatively represent that he or she is physically situated in the State of New York and they must transmit by fax or electronic means a legible copy of the signed document to the Notary on the same date it was signed.
