Through your support and grant funding, Nutmeg Spay/Neuter Clinic’s Pets for Life (PFL) Program has increased our giving power and has given out hundreds of pounds of dog and cat food, litter, treats, and other supplies since the pandemic began.  Nutmeg is committed to providing community-based work that follows the PFL model of maintaining positive relationships with families and their pets, proving again that being a consistent resource is paramount to making a transformative impact in the community.

Looking for a way to assist underserved communities and their pets during this difficult time?  MAKE A TAX-DEDUCTIBLE DONATION and provide immediate, direct support to pet owners in need.

In 2017, Nutmeg became the first and only non-profit in Connecticut that participates with the “Pets for Life” (PFL) program, a strategic door-to-door outreach which helps bring free medical care, services, training, education and transportation to people and their pets with little or no access to pet wellness otherwise. The PFL program is a revolutionary initiative that establishes a consistent community presence, and a unique, comprehensive follow up process that ensures relationships are nurtured on an ongoing basis.

The program provides no-cost sterilization and vaccinations and also donates funds to be used to keeping pets in their current homes as opposed to using those funds towards taking, housing and re-homing. The program’s philosophy promotes the understanding that a lack of financial means does not equate to a lack of love felt for and provided to the pet. A pet can enhance everyone's lives, and those choose to should have the opportunity to experience the unconditional love and meaningful relationship a pet brings.

Pets for Life is an integral element of our objective to end pet overpopulation. There is an abundance of local organizations that offer aid for homeless pets, but this is one of the only programs addressing the much-needed dilemma of not only finding a pet a home but preserving the pet and their well-being in that home.
