During the summer, you may be tackling some outdoor projects. If you’re considering redoing your driveway, recycled concrete is the perfect solution. Before you get started, there are a few tips you’ll need to be aware of to make sure the pouring process goes smoothly.

How to Pour Recycled Concrete

1. Prepare the Space

If you don’t pour the concrete on a clean and level surface, the final product will be uneven and bumpy. Start by clearing away any dirt, debris, or twigs. Then, use a leveler to ensure the surface is straight. If it isn’t, contact a contractor to level it out.

2. Keep the Aggregate Cool

While you prep the space, store the aggregate in the shade or in a cool, dark area like the garage. If there aren’t any shaded areas on your property, and you don’t have a cool, dark space accessible, add cool water to the aggregate. Pour the concrete as soon as possible to ensure you can easily maneuver it to the proper spaces.

3. Groove & Seal

Once you’ve poured the concrete, you’ll need to start grooving. This refers to a process in which you create lines or patterns in the concrete to give the material room to expand or contract to accommodate different temperatures. Once the concrete has dried, apply a sealant to protect it against damage.
