From heirlooms to office equipment, there might be various lamps used to illuminate your home. Due to the fragile materials and awkward shapes, the fixtures are highly susceptible to damage while moving. To help movers get your lamps to the new home intact, follow the advice here.

4 Steps to Pack Lamps for a Move

1. Shades

So you can fit lamp bases into boxes for movers, remove the shades, harps, and finials. Carefully wrap plain packing paper around the shades one by one. Depending on the sizes, you might be able to stack smaller shades in larger ones to save space. Before you pack them with the corresponding bases, wrap the harps and finials in the paper.

2. Cords

Don’t put lamps inside boxes without securing the cords first. Bases could get scratched and cracked as cables and prongs rub against them. Get a sheet of Styrofoam and cut it into smaller pieces. Use the pieces to cover the metal prongs on the cables. Gather each long cord into a bundle and secure it together with tape.

4. Bases

Make sure you have enough packing paper to wrap each lamp base in a few layers. For extra cushioning during the journey, place air-filled plastic padding around particularly fragile materials. Place each base, along with its harp and finial, upright in a box and fill in the gaps with packing peanuts or towels. Write “fragile” on the sides, so the movers lift lamp boxes with caution, .
