It’s hard to beat that brand new appearance of replacement windows. Not only do the materials improve aesthetics, but they also open up the space and create a welcoming environment with plenty of natural light. However, with regular exposure to the elements, maintaining cleanliness is a challenge. Simplify the process by using the below do’s and don’ts to ensure the proper level of care.

Do:

Eliminate loose particles.

Attempting to wipe replacement windows without dusting them off first could cause streaks or scratch the glass. Before applying a cleaner, use a soft, microfiber cloth to remove any dirt and debris. Flip the material over partway through to prevent spreading the dust. This ensures that your windows shine and remain clear after you finish cleaning.

Vacuum the tracks.

Allowing dirt to remain along the inside of the tracks will increase its chances of getting back onto the window. Use a vacuum to remove the large debris. Keep the dust from becoming airborne by soaking a clean cloth in warm water to wipe down the frame. Then, dry it with another clean cloth to prevent rusting.

Don’t:

Use abrasive cleaners.

Instead, opt for mild cleaners, such as dish soap or vinegar. They’ll provide the same level of clean, without jeopardizing the window.

Neglect proper lubrication.

Check the functionality of each window at least once a month. If a window is sticking, apply a silicone-based lubricant along the rollers and tracks. Avoid spraying directly into the frame as it could drip onto the window and leave a permanent mark. Instead, put it on a dry cloth and rub the inside of the tracks, moving the window up and down to work in the lubricant.
