COVID-19 is taking a toll on Hawaii’s economy, leaving many residents out of work. With families feeling the strain financially, Hawaii food banks are seeing increased demand and having trouble meeting it. In an effort to help, Surfing Goat Dairy of Kula, HI, has donated fresh farm goods to organizations that feed area residents.

Dairy Product Donations in May 2020

According to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser, Hawaii Foodbank has seen a 56% jump in requests since mid-March. Usually, the organization gives away about one million pounds of food per month. Now, it's having trouble keeping up with the unprecedented need.

farmRecognizing an opportunity to serve their community, Surfing Goat Dairy farm donated over 1100 pounds of cheese in the last six weeks. The dairy products went to the Maui Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, Feed my Sheep, churches and other organizations that feed seniors, people with disabilities, the homeless, and the poor. And they supported the employee food drives at major hotels on Maui like the Grand Wailea, the Ritz Carlton and the Montage hotel in Kapalua.

How Can You Help?

The goat dairy farm’s owners, Thomas and Eva-Maria Kafsack, have already pledged additional donations going ahead. They have asked hotels, churches and nonprofits with meal programs to come forward if they need assistance.
