Keeping portable toilets clean isn’t always easy. From the number of guests to the frequency of use, it’s only a matter of time until their condition begins to deteriorate. Thankfully, with a few simple precautions, you can ensure comfort for each and every one of your guests. Consider the following to determine how to properly prepare.

5 Tips for Keeping Portable Toilets Clean

1. Order Enough

According to the Portable Sanitation Association International®, one toilet per 100 guests should be enough for approximately four hours. Knowing how many guests are attending, how long each unit has been used, and when they should be replaced will prevent any overuse and ensure that they remain clean for longer periods of time. If the event might go longer, then secure a few additional units to prevent overuse.

2. Regular Refills

Whether it’s replacing an empty toilet paper roll or refilling the hand sanitizer, monitoring the units will reduce the spread of germs and provide your guests with everything they need.

3. Install Fresheners

Even though port-a-potties contain vents, smells still have a tendency to linger. Freshen things up by hanging odor control products along the inside of each unit. Change them out regularly to maintain a breathable atmosphere.

4. Wipe Down

While you don’t have to thoroughly clean the entire unit, it’s essential to cover each point of contact. This includes the door handle, hand sanitizer dispenser, and paper towel holders. Have someone give them a quick wipe down with disinfectant and paper towels at least once per hour to preserve a level of cleanliness.

5. Professional Service

If the event is going to last for several days, then securing professional service might be necessary. Port-a-potties can only hold so much waste and neglecting to empty them could greatly inconvenience your guests. Plus, it provides an opportunity to sanitize them and readies the units for further use.
