November and December bring with them more than gifts and holidays. They also mean the threat of cold and hazardous road conditions. Sure-Drive Driver's Training in Ft Mitchell, KY offers these five tips to help if new drivers find themselves struggling to navigate their cars during winter conditions:

  • Remove Snow And Ice: It sounds like common sense to clear your car before attempting to drive it in snow and ice conditions, but many new drives don’t. Make sure your hood, trunk, windows, lights, and signals are visible to other drivers.
  • Never Go Below Half A Tank: The last thing you want is to get stranded and run out of heat. Keep your gas tank at least half full at all times.
  • Keep Your Vehicle Maintained: Follow your manufacturer's suggested maintenance schedule.
  • Drive Carefully: Some road conditions call for slower speeds. You will also want watch for other drivers and fallen debris.
  • Accelerate And Decelerate Slowly: Keeping your car moving at slower speeds when backing up or going forward in icy conditions is the best way to ensure your tires have traction.

The driving instructors at Sure-Drive Driver's Training can teach new drivers these and other ways to stay safe in icy and cold conditions. Driving classes are available for teens and others who need help with driving lessons.
