1. Text Size

eye problemsWhen the text on your screen is too small, it can be hard to read, forcing you to squint and ultimately causing eye problems. That is a strain on the eyes, so when you’re forced to do that all the time, it can take quite a toll. The next time you notice yourself squinting, try going to the settings and enlarging the text. Keep boosting the size until you find a range that is comfortable for you. 

2. Brightness

It can be inviting to turn up the brightness on your screen, so the images and text are illuminated as much as possible. But when it gets too high, it can be overwhelming to the eyes and force you to fight glare. It’s best to set your brightness to a more neutral setting so that you can still see well, but the light isn’t aggressively lit. It’s also worth turning down the color temperature, which will decrease the amount of severe “blue light” that you’re exposed to from the screen. 

3. 20-20-20 Rule

When on your phone or computer, it’s easy to get into a zone and keep staring for lengthy periods of time. But when there is no break, it can be harmful to your eyes. The rule of thumb is that every 20 minutes, you should try to look away for 20 seconds at something at least 20 feet away. The idea is to reintroduce some distance and variation to your sight so that muscle still works.
